How to Effectively Market Your Christmas Products During the Festive Season

The festive season is upon us, and businesses are gearing up for one of the busiest times of the year - Christmas 🎄

With so many products flooding the market, it can be challenging for a small business owner to stand out and effectively promote their products.

In this blog post, I'll discuss some tips on how to properly market your Christmas wares during the holiday season, along with some creative photography and content examples.

Understanding the Barriers of Marketing During Christmas

As mentioned earlier, the Christmas season is a time when businesses go all out with their marketing efforts. This leads to a saturation of advertisements and promotions that can make it difficult for smaller businesses to get noticed.

The key to overcoming this barrier is to be creative and think outside the box.

Get Creative this Christmas Season

The way to stand out from the crowd is by using unique and eye-catching photography.

However, I appreciate some businesses want to preserve their brand image, which may be quite monotone or normative. Therefore this unique approach may not align with some, and that's okay.

Nonetheless, for those who are willing to level up, instead of traditional product shots, try incorporating more edgy but still festive elements, such as:

  • Christmas lights

  • Edgy photographic angles

  • Creative holders/stands for your products

  • Models dressed in unconventional Christmas clothing (we're sick of Christmas jumpers)

  • Catchy Christmas music

  • Non-traditional decorations

  • Non-traditional Christmas colourway... although the red and gold colourway is best (sorry!), people know this and overdo it at Christmas. Try experimenting with some unconventional colours to make you stand out from the thousands of red and gold posts.

This will not only make your products more appealing to your target audience but also help them stand out in the sea of advertisements.

Humans Like to See Humans

As much as animation is alluring for the younger generation, adults want to see humans in advertisements. Have you noticed you tend to like photos that include smiling people over animated ones?

Creating Engaging Content for Your Christmas Products

Aside from photography, another important aspect of effective marketing is creating engaging content. This includes a very active social media campaign:

  • Blog articles about your product: how you make it, where you source it from, what makes it special.

  • Static posts: this is the edgy photography bit.

  • Video content: show your face... don't be a weirdo behind a profile picture; people need to like YOU as much as your brand.

  • Giveaways: people love free stuff, do this to death if you can.

  • Do 'Good, Better, Best' for your products. Yes! I know all your products are great, however, you need to cover all budgets.

  • Q&A: people love to be listened to; let people ask questions about your products

  • 'This or That' poll of your products. Again, people love to talk about themselves, and you get to see what products are popular amongst prospective buyers.

I can't stress this enough... RECORD VIDEOS OF YOU TALKING/USING YOUR PRODUCT. TELL ME WHY IT'S GREAT. This is important! Because if people like you, based on your vibe in the video, they're more likely to buy your product. Customers can't make that evaluation based on a written description.

A mix of video and static is your best friend this season.

The Importance of Timing in Christmas Marketing

With Christmas being only a few weeks away, there is no time to waste when it comes to promoting your wares. No time like the present!

You can change nothing, stick to the same campaign as last year, and whinge in January that you've made no money... it's up to you!
